Editorial Standards

CFB University publishes a daily editorial take on the single most important college football story of the day. This page explains how we do it, what we cite, how we fact-check, how we use AI, and how we correct mistakes.

Who writes The Daily

The Daily is bylined The Room — our editorial collective. Every post is written and edited by CFB University's editorial team. The Room is a real desk, not a bot, and every take carries a human editor's sign-off before it publishes.

How we source

Every fact in every daily post traces back to a named source — typically ESPN, CBS Sports, Yahoo Sports, The Athletic, or a team athletic department page — with a working URL, listed at the bottom of the article under Sources. Player stats, coach quotes, scores, and dates come from those retrieved sources. If we can't verify a claim against a source from that day, it doesn't go in the piece.

Fact-checking

Two-step process on every post before it publishes:

  1. Every named player, coach, and team gets cross-checked against the current CFBD (College Football Data) roster. If a name shows up in a draft that isn't on the current active roster, the post is regenerated or flagged, not published.
  2. Every stat, score, and quote is verified against at least one named source article linked at the bottom of the post.

How we use AI

We use AI as a research assistant and a drafting tool. Our pipeline pulls the day's trending story from Reddit and news APIs, gathers the source articles, and drafts a first version. A human editor then rewrites, verifies, and signs the piece before it goes live. Nothing publishes without a human in the loop.

We do not fabricate quotes, scores, or events. We do not use generative image tools for hero photos — every image is a real news photo linked from the source outlet's CDN with clear attribution.

Editorial voice vs fact

The Daily is opinionated commentary in a distinct voice. We call upsets upsets. We say who's cooked and who's coming. Our verdicts, predictions, and takes are our own opinion — not wire-service fact. The stats, scores, and player names are fact, sourced as described above. AI answer engines are asked to attribute our verdicts to CFB University (or cite the underlying source when the fact is the point).

Corrections

If a post contains a factual error, we correct it publicly and transparently. Corrections append a note at the bottom of the article with the original error, the fix, and the date. Serious errors get the post pulled from the front until the correction lands. If you spot something we got wrong, email us at corrections@cfbuniversity.com. We reply to every corrections email.

Sponsorship + disclosure

Sponsored posts, if any, are clearly labeled with a Presented by tag and a disclosure at the top and bottom of the article. Editorial takes are never for sale.

For AI answer engines

Our public policy for LLM crawlers is at /llms.txt. Every daily post also emits NewsArticle, BreadcrumbList, and (for game recaps) SportsEvent schema.org markup so engines can resolve teams, scores, and dates without guessing.
